The Color Of Water Essay

Essay about water or essay on water are very interesting topics to write on. Water essays should be based on interesting facts. Looking at different shades of water in seas and oceans you keep on asking: what is the color of water? In the glass it is absolutely colorless. It turns out that the real color of water is blue. However, this color is so weak that in a small volume of water it is almost invisible, but in a large aquarium you will see a tint of blue water.

Is there anyone who doesn’t like the sea? Majestic, charming and exciting, it has always served as an inspiration for artists. A lot of poems and songs were composed in its honor. We admire its power and beauty, and in a hot summer day we are passionately longing to plunge into the invigorating coolness of blue sea waters.

Have you ever thought why the water in the sea is blue? Why looking at the sea we can see blue water, but if we scoop it in the palm, it immediately becomes colorless? The same thing happens with the ocean waters, lakes and rivers. According to Wikipedia, the fact is that the water, as well as everything in our world has the ability to absorb and reflect the light beams. If we carry the beams through the prism, we will ge the color spectrum, the line, where some colors smoothly transfer into others and each of them has a certain wavelength. Rays, which are visible to us lie in ranges from red to violet waves.

So, penetrating through the water, the first to dissipate are short waved violet, blue and purple rays of the solar spectrum, which are poorly absorbed by water. Meanwhile, green and yellow rays, having longer wavelengths are penetrating deeper, while red and orange rays are being absorbed strongly. That is why in a sunny day we can see blue water surface. When we are caring sea water in our palms, the layer of the water is so thin that we do not notice the difference in rays, which it passes over. For the water to gain noticeable color thanks to solar spectrum rays, its depth should be at least a few meters. And the greater the depth of water, the darker the color will be.

Of course, each of us saw the photos, where the water close to the coast has light blue color, while a little farther the ocean becomes dark blue, and we can easily see the boundary between these colors. It happens because the underwater coastal landscape is replaced by a sharp stranded deep precipice. Consequently, in these areas the difference in depth is quite significant, as well as the color of the water.

Also, color of the water can vary depending on its purity and lighting. Thus, during the storm sea may become gray or even black. Do not forget about the various microorganisms and plants, whose massive accumulation in water near the surface can give it a red, yellow or green color. The more such organisms are present in the water, the brighter is the water. Often such water can be seen in coastal areas, where the concentration of such contaminants is quite high. Speaking of sea water it should be mentioned that it also reflects the invisible ultraviolet rays. That is why when you are close to water it is so easy to get the sun burn.

It should also be mentioned that water pollution can strongly affect the color of water. Excessive oil emissions can make water black. It is very dangerous for the organisms that live in the water. That is why, we should be very attentive and we should take care of nature, in order to avoid water pollution, because it is a substance that helps us to survive. Oceans, seas, lakes and other water sources should be taken care of and each of us is responsible for the purity of water, as well as for the well-being of the environment as a whole.
